Senior to Lead Automation Engineer – HYENAS (FPS)

Creative Assembly is looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to join our FPS Team to work on HYENAS, our exciting new shooter. This role will be based at one of our studios in Horsham, in the heart of West Sussex.

You will be part of a small team of Engineers whose aim is to automate all aspects of game testing, as well as establishing a test-oriented culture across the entire project team.

Flexible working at Creative Assembly includes hybrid, fully remote within country of employment for eligible roles, and in-studio. We recognise that there is no one-size-fits-all approach and empower our teams to define the working patterns which work best for them, which may mean different things for different teams and roles and at different times.

This role can be offered as hybrid, in-studio or fully remote depending on candidate requirements. Further details can be discussed during the recruitment process.

Key Responsibilities

On a day-to-day basis, you will:
  • Develop frameworks, tests, and tools to automate the testing of our multiplayer game
  • Enable and encourage developers to implement unit tests by providing them with the right tools, frameworks, and infrastructure
  • Define our testing practices and have the potential to take on leadership responsibilities
  • Be proactive and have a strong focus on quality and risk throughout the delivery cycle, identifying and implementing automation approaches as required
  • Have a good understanding of a variety of test approaches in a software as a service environment
  • Drive various initiatives, foster a positive and practical work ethic, and elicit buy-in from the wider team
  • Liaise with the product owner(s), technical leads, developers, and design teams to ensure the testing of new features runs smoothly
  • Drive synergy between manual QA, automation, and gameplay teams.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience 

  • Commercial experience with Unreal Engine 4   (or a similar AAA Game engine)
  • Strong technical skills with a high level of C++ and at least one high-level language e.g. C#/Python
  • Experience in developing Test Plans, Test Scripts/Blueprints, Defining Test Data and Reports
  • Familiarity with game development and the technology involved
  • Familiarity with reporting tools e.g. PowerBI/Kibana
  • Leadership skills – able to mentor automation engineers at all levels
  • Strong communication skills
  • A proactive attitude  
  • Experience with Unreal's Gauntlet system and Functional Test framework
  • Experience with SQL databases e.g. MySQL/SQL Server
  • Experience with NoSQL databases e.g. Elasticsearch/Mongo DB
  • Experience with continuous integration software e.g. TeamCity/Jenkins
  • Experience with source control e.g. Perforce/Git
  • Experience working with cloud/virtualised environments e.g. Aws/Azure
  • Experience with containerisation of services e.g. Docker/Kubernetes
