Trainee Designer - Historical

Total War Design
Our multi award-winning Total War team is looking for exceptionally bright and talented trainee designers to join them in creating exciting new DLCs for Total War: Three Kingdoms.

This is an excellent the opportunity to develop your skills as a game designer whilst working alongside other design professionals on one of the genre’s most feature-rich games.

Key Responsibilities

As a trainee, you will develop your skills alongside highly respected professionals with the opportunity to gain insight on development from beginning to completion.

You will have a hand in designing compelling features and content and will communicate and collaborate with experts from every development discipline. You will be motivated by a strong desire to learn, and to effectively apply your learning in the creation of immersive gameplay experiences. As part of the DLC team, you will also be working to a high-cadence release schedule.

Throughout your traineeship your effectiveness in these areas and more will be evaluated by the team, your distinct specialisms nurtured and - where possible - guidance will be given on how to develop your game design and development skillset overall.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience

Essential
  • An avid strategy gamer and a fan of Total War Games and/ or grand strategy titles.
  • A passion for game design and a keen interest in games development overall
  • A strong desire to learn new skills and apply them to making quality products
  • Attention to detail and an ability to analyse gameplay, identify strengths and weaknesses, and recommend improvements
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; can communicate clearly and succinctly
  • Ability to deliver quality work as part of a high-cadence development cycle
Desirable
  • Knowledge of and interest in History
  • Modding experience – preferably Total War
  • Good attitude towards complex problem solving
  • Experience using Excel
  • Programming or Scripting skills; Art skills; Writing skills
  • Excellent academic background at degree level or above
The traineeship will be for one year onsite at our studio in Horsham, West Sussex.

These traineeships are paid placements and all applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK.
