Position overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for an established finance professional to join a highly successful games development studio. Reporting to the COO, the Finance Director will not only be an exceptional qualified accountant but also have a real on hands-on approach to company finances. Building excellent working relationships, the successful candidate will work closely with the COO, the Studio Director, other Senior Executives in the studio, at SEGA and external parties. We are looking for a Finance Director who maintains a high level of integrity, authenticity and openness combined with commitment to good governance and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

The Finance Director will:

  • Maintain overall responsibility and running of all financial aspects of the company strategy  
  • Have overall control of the company’s accounting function
  • Fully contribute to the development of company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate
  • Provide financial analysis, recommendations and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers
  • Build excellent working relationships at all levels
  • Work with senior team to grow the business, formulating strategies and plans
  • Support the leadership team and advise on the best options for business success
  • Lead and develop a core finance team through the full range of accounting cycles and long term business plans
  • Communicate well with all levels of staff within the studio, often working with various departments to help them plan and manage their own budgets
  • Be up-to-date on developments in the business and commercial world
  • Be fully proficient in Corporate finance; managing company policies regarding capital requirements, debt, taxation, equity, disposals and acquisitions, as appropriate
  • Take full advantage of locally available tax incentives such as Video Games Tax Relief, Research and Development plus any others that may exist

Knowledge, Skill and Experience

  • Qualified member of an accountancy body or holder of an equivalent qualification
  • Experience of ensuring corporate budgeting processes are carried out and reviewed
  • Solid track record of ensuring company financial systems are robust, compliant and support current activities and future business growth and development
  • Ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels 
  • Exceptional communication skills at all levels
  • Be articulate and influential in both verbal and written communication
  • Capability to be calm and confident during high levels of pressure and critical decision-making
  • Strong IT skills, always being ahead of new technologies
  • Ability to lead and develop teams
  • Experience in the games industry or a creative industry in a project accounts environment is preferred but not essential
